Montecchio was an ex-monastery (of nuns), subsequently a villa of
important families and influential Tuscan nobility over the centuries.
The records on Montecchio go back
back as far as the ninth century(first mentioned in 807 A.D.)
An example of its incredible history was when
one important Montecchio family (the Upezzinghi) grew so powerful and wealthy
that the Republic of Pisa in 1205 felt in its best interests to have a
treaty of friendship with them. |
